ONWARD ‘09: 2nd Annual Juried Photography Competition

Project Basho is pleased to announce ONWARD ‘09, annual juried photography competition, exclusively featuring new and emerging photographs’ work.

This year, we are inviting Peter Barberie, Curator of Photographs at Philadelphia Museum of Art as juror. The extended postmark deadline is November 28. For more information, please download the entry form from our website.

Theme for the competition is open, and any photographic medium including but not limited to historical processes, traditional silver printing, chromogenic printing and digital processes can be submitted for consideration. Selected photographers’ work will be featured in a group exhibition at Project Basho Gallery. Further recognition will be awarded in the form of cash awards and opportunities for a two-person show at Project Basho Gallery.

Last year’s competition attracted close to 300 photographers nationally and internationally who submitted over 1200 images. Andrea Modica, the last year juror selected 59 photographs for the show at Project Basho Gallery, which was held in January and February 2008. Capitol Lakes Photo Competition

On the occasion of the Grand Re-Opening of the Captiol Lakes, the Art Committee opens an exciting color photography Competition on the theme of ‘READING’.

The photos will be displayed in the library.

The jury will be members of the Art Committee, helped by a professional photographer. The jury will select works and award prizes in each category:

1 - Amateur

2 - Professional

Prizes for each category are as follows:

First $200
Second $125
Third $75

How to Submit:

Each competitor may submit 1 to 3 photos, in color, maximum size 8.5″ x 11″ Entries will be judged from these prints. Each set of prints should be delivered in an plain, neutral envelope bearing a pseudonym and a three digit number (Ex. Breadmachine 357) to preserve anonymity for the purpose of jurying.

A separate envelope should contain 3 pieces of information:

1) The statement: “The photo(s) I submit is/are original, not a copy of someone else’s work.”

2)My pseudonym is (Breadmachine 357) … My real name and address is (email as well)

3) Professional or amateur status.

Center for Fine Art Photography Special Offer for SPE

The Center for Fine Art Photography Inc.has a special offer for our friends at the Society for Photographic Education. If you sign up for membership to the Center, at the time you register for a show we will give you two free images for that show. Instead of just three images you would be able to submit five images, this would be a $35 savings or more than half of the membership fee.

After you have received your receipt for membership and registration via email, simply forward it to Nathan or Bill with subject line SPE Entry to be credited with your free additional image. Please allow 24 hours for image credit to appear on your account.

If you would like to enter just one of our Calls for Entry, send us an email that you are a SPE member then we will add one image to your entry making it a total of four images.

Residency Program with Stipend

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, NE offers 2- to 8-week residencies year-round for writers, visual artists, and music composers. Housing, studio space, $100/week stipend are provided.
Approximately 50 residencies are awarded per year. Two deadlines each year: postmarked March 1 for the following July through December 15; postmarked September 1 for the following January through June 15.

$25 application fee.

New Artists’ ShowCase Portfolio call for entries

The Center is now accepting entries for the second issue of Artists’ ShowCase Portfolio, juried by Rixon Reed of Photo-Eye. This portfolio call for entries is open until December 3rd, 2008.

Colleen Plumb received the Solo Exhibition Award for the first issue portfolio.
