Photography Shows in Rhode Island during SPE 2004 ConferenceNOTE: THREE SPECIAL RECEPTIONS FOR SPE .... Wednesday evening at URI in Kingston for three exhibitions, Thursday for Providence trip participants at RISD Museum, and Saturday night in Newport at Salve Regina's beautiful Ochre Court mansion. See below for details. PROVIDENCE SPE registration receipt required for free admission to RISD Museum 3/25/04 "Interior Drama: Aaron Siskind's Photographs of the 1940s" has been extended through Sunday, March 28. This loan exhibition of some 100 photographs traces Siskind's shift away from documenting social issues in New York to making abstract, metaphorical photographs: the foundation for his next four prolific decades. Organized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Siskind's birth, the show includes many rarely seen images and explores Siskind's interest in the ideas of the surrealists. Curated by Jan Howard and accompanied by a catalogue. The RISD Museum is its only venue. RISD Museum, 224 Benefit Street, Providence, RI. Hours: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Tues-Sun.
